Remanso, the celebrated contemporary ballet for three men, was created for American Ballet Theatre in 1997 by Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato. It was inspired by the poem by Federico García Lorca and set to the expressive piano melodies of Valses Poéticos.
The piece balances playful camaraderie between the male dancers with a soft eloquence of fluid, grounded movement in Duato’s distinctive style. Accompanied by the strikingly simple set of a single square wall, and lit in many emotive ways, this piece mesmerises audiences in a visual feast of line and form.
