GISELLE
November 2026
An ethereal tale of love and forgiveness
Cape Ballet Africa’s production of Giselle returns to the stage at the Adam Small Theatre in Stellenbosch.
This romantic masterpiece tells a timeless tale of innocent love, betrayal, and redemption. Giselle, a young peasant, falls in love with Albrecht, a nobleman in disguise and becomes heartbroken when the truth of his engagement to another is revealed one afternoon by the jealous Hilarion. Giselle tragically dies and joins the Wilis, who are ghostly maidens who died while betrayed before their wedding days. The second act is a breathtaking display of longing and technical control as dancers glide across the stage, and Giselle makes one final act of love.
Choreographed by international icon of ballet, Maina Gielgud, with designs by Michael Mitchell and music composed by Adolphe Adam, join us for an enchanting experience in the heart of the Cape’s wine country.
